Description
Ammolite is an organic opalescent layer that forms on the outside of some ammonite fossils. Alberta, Canada is known to have the most beautiful ammolite in the world. This ammolite is about 73 million years old. “Mosaics” are brightly colored natural slivers of ammolite that have been pieced together like a stained glass window. This cabochon is a “triplet.” In other words, it's backed with a black backing and coated on the front with a clear lacquer to protect the fragile ammolite. The pendant is about 1.5" tall and .6" wide. Like opal, ammolite is “directional.” The brightness of the colors shifts with the direction of the light striking it. The pendant is set in sterling silver. I include a polishing cloth. To prevent tarnishing, store your ammolite pendant in the heavy duty plastic bag provided, then shine the sterling silver setting with the polishing cloth after wearing. You may purchase the pendant alone or with an optional sterling silver chain (16", 18", 20", 24" wheat chain or 22" adjustable box chain). I slip your pendant into a decorative jewelry pouch, then into a gift box tied with a ribbon, all ready for gifting.
