Description
AMMOLITE is an opal-like organic gemstone that forms on the back of some AMMONITE fossils. Although you see a touch of ammolite on fossils throughout the world, only the ammonite fossils in Alberta, Canada exhibit such bright, iridescent colors. Canadian ammolite is about 73 million years old. This piece is a mosaic. Brightly colored slivers of ammolite are carefully cut and pieced together like a stained glass window. The cabochon is capped with clear resin and backed with a hard material to protect the fragile ammolite. Just like opal, ammolite is "directional," meaning that the colors flash brightly from different angles when the light hits it. This 14k gold-filled pendant measures about 2.5" tall and 1.25" wide. I include a polishing cloth. You can purchase the pendant alone or with a 14k gold-filled snake chain in your choice of 16, 18, or 20 inches. I tuck your pendant into a decorative jewelry pouch, then into a gift box tied with a ribbon, all ready for gifting.
