Since ancient history, the North Star has been a powerful symbol of guidance and direction for many cultures. These earrings are part of my series of North Star jewelry. Each piece features a Herkimer "Diamond" shining its light across the night sky, represented by Snowflake Obsidian and Black Onyx. Snowflake Obsidian is a volcanic glass created by nature and has grayish crystal inclusions that look like puffy clouds. Herkimer "Diamonds" are actually quartz crystals from Herkimer, New York which are distinguished by their double-terminated points and their clarity. I set the earrings with sterling silver and include rubber ear backs and a polishing cloth. To prevent tarnishing, store your earrings in the heavy duty plastic bag provided, then shine the silver with the polishing cloth after wearing. I tuck the earrings into a starry jewelry pouch, then into a "night sky" gift box tied with a star-studded ribbon.
