Royston Ribbon Turquoise is boulder turquoise from the Royston Mines in Nevada characterized by a ribbon-like vein of turquoise running through the matrix rock. This highly coveted turquoise was mined and cut by the Otteson family, renowned Nevada turquoise miners. The stones were backed with a vinyl-like material — a common lapidary practice used to make the stones stand out in their setting without wasting precious material. The drop length is about 2.1 inches. Although the earrings are fairly large, each one weighs less than a quarter. I set the stones in copper and include a polishing cloth and rubber ear backs. To prevent tarnishing, store your earrings in the plastic bag provided, then shine the copper with the polishing cloth after wearing. I slip your earrings into a decorative jewelry pouch, then into a gift box tied with a ribbon, all ready for gifting. I think the copper setting contrasts well with the rusty browns in the stone and will also make the earrings stand out against darker hair colors. In time, the crevices that can't be cleaned with a polishing cloth will develop a nice contrast with the shiny copper and will look even better.
