Description
This ammonite fossil (cut in half to make a pair of earrings) came from Madagascar and is at least 60 million years old. That's the time these creatures went extinct. They are similar to the nautilus which is still in existence. The earrings without ear wire are about 1 3/4 x 3/4 inches. The total drop length is about 1.5 inches.
I make large and small ammonite pendants in sterling silver, 14k gold filled and copper wire, as well as wire wrapped ammonite earrings. If you don't see the size/metal you want in my Etsy shop, feel free to message me a request.
I set the earrings in sterling silver, and include a polishing cloth and rubber ear backs. Store them in their heavy duty plastic bag to prevent tarnishing. The earrings comes enclosed in a gift pouch, encased in a gift box tied with ribbon — all ready to give to your favorite fossil lover (which may just be you).
P.S. The ammonite fossil is an excellent example of the Fibonacci Spiral, or the Golden Ratio in geometry.
